My Story
Creation:
In every theology, there are tales of creation and destruction. Destruction breaks down structures into components. Creation takes those components and builds something new. If given the opportunity, create.
Community:
In 2010, the Knight Foundation and Gallup conducted a study called the Soul of the Community Project. Across 26 communities, these five characteristics were the most influential (in order of importance): Social Offerings, Openness, Aesthetics, Education, and Basic Services. Communities encourage us to be better and enrich the lives around us.
Wellness:
According to the SAMHSA, the 8 Dimensions of Wellness are Environmental, Emotional, Financial, Social, Spiritual, Occupational, Physical, and Intellectual. Each brings meaning into our lives. Art fills multiple dimensions for me, and sharing it with you fills yet another.
My journey started with photography. When I held a camera, light and nature were not far behind. Then came drawing and painting.
The drawing didn’t come as quickly. Nor did ceramics. However, art helped me through emotional and mental health challenges.
I began painting with acrylics on canvas in 2008 and continue to paint occasionally. Photography is still my primary form of expression, and I went to school for Business Management at the local community college to open my own photography business.
Photography still has a considerable place in my life; however, acrylics have become more fluid. It has taken many experiences to learn what sharing art would look like for me. What came to me was a combination of Prints, Props, and Photography. Art should be accessible and connect us. I hope that sharing my artwork and creations sparks something for you.
